passport to paris

Two wonderful little books came in the mail today. One, my updated passport with my new [or not so new, really] married name. And, two, this Moleskine Paris City Notebook

I already keep a red Moleskine journal in my purse and use it quite frequently. So, I’m very excited about a Paris specific one. It’s a guidebook + journal all in one. It has maps of the city including a Metro map. Plus it has handy tidbits like international size conversions. I’m looking forward to documenting our trip in it!

big top candy shop

I hope you don’t mind if I sprinkle in a bit more of our Austin trip… While there, we stopped in Big Top Candy Shop. This SoCo sweet shop is an old-fashioned candy and soda fountain shop chocked full of goodies! Candies from your youth. Candies from around the world. More than you can even imagine, and it’s all surrounded in fun, vintage carnival sideshow decor.

Kacey tried the hottest chocolate in the world while I sampled the double bacon chocolate bar. I love bacon, but this… I dunno. I couldn’t get past the chewiness on the inside.

Behind the cash register, back against the wall is a wonderful wall of speakers. All sizes. And all sorts of fun. And speaking of cash registers… this one was super cool. See the gold box in the pic below? It’s the computer screen. You can see the screen’s reflection in the mirror all the way to the right beneath the clown.

hôtel plaza athénée paris

We started our Paris hotel research, and I stumbled upon Hôtel Plaza Athénée Paris. Remember the Carrie in Paris episodes in SATC? Well, Hôtel Plaza Athénée Paris is where they stayed. It’s gorgeous and oozing with lavish Parisian decor.

The hotel has a SATC package. Below is a bit from their website.

“A Cosmopolitan cocktail “Carrie’s favourite drink” for each person, served at Le Bar du Plaza Athénée, A chocolate shoe made by our World Champion Pastry Chef Christophe Michalak, Carrie’s “Must have” shopping booklet “All is about shoes”, listing the leading footwear names found on avenue Montaigne. Thanks to a VIP contact in each boutique, you will enjoy a personalised welcome.

And for even more luxury…

We offer you the opportunity for an additionnal fee of €1000 to have a made to measure pair of shoes created by you with the help of a designer. The shoes are hand made in four weeks and delivered to your home address.”

The hotel also boasts the largest suite in Paris. It’s called the Royale Suite and it’s 4800+ square feet. And it comes with keys to the latest Maserati for the length of your stay.

The whole hotel is totally out of our budget, but a girl can dream right?

paris

I can’t believe it. Paris. And us. In a few short months.

I’ve been longing to go for so, so long.  |  photos via here, here, and here

vintage royal

Another place we visited in Austin was Room Service Vintage, a super cool retro shop. I loved going through the store. Every so often something would catch my eye and trigger an old memory. A candle holder. A popcorn bowl set. An old lamp.

What we walked out with, though, was this old 1940′s manual typewriter. Glass keys. Tweed case. Shift freedom keys. Complete jackpot.

uncommon objects

In Austin, we did a little shopping at Uncommon Objects. They have vintage and antique oddities and curious objects. I could have spent hours in there. Hours.

Don’t these tutus look like Martha’s pom-poms?
