sunset

Just about every evening after we put Em to bed, Kacey and I go outside and sit on our swing. Most evenings there’s a nice breeze. And with the sun no longer blazing overhead, the weather is quite enjoyable. This sunset is what greeted us when we went outside yesterday. Isn’t nature stunning?

weekend recap

Wow, what a weekend! The Prince. The Pope. The President. So much history was made.

In other none history making news, we spent Saturday working in our flowerbeds. We finally added some color! Pretty purple petunias. Crossing our fingers that they survive this heat!

How was your weekend?

em’s first birthday party

We celebrated Em’s first birthday a few weeks ago. As you may remember, we created a theme of “a celebration of firsts” and crafted these invitations + first year certificates.

em's first birthday party

We wanted the decor to be easy + inexpensive. So, we continued with the theme and framed some of her special first things in frames we already had around the house.

Her first rattle. Her first bonnet which was hand smocked. Her first hand + foot prints. The bloomers from her one month pictures. We also framed one of her first dresses – a beautiful, soft pink Feltman Brothers dress. Elsewhere, we framed the little hat + info anklet she wore in the hospital, her going home outfit, and her first booties that my grandmother tatted.

We custom ordered a pink vanilla cake from Sugar Mama’s and raspberry and strawberry champagne macarons from La Pâtisserie. We also ordered pink rock candy swizzle sticks.

After purchasing a bunch of different pink + white flowers from a local grocery store, I arranged them into vases we already had.

When it was time for cake, I thought Em would dive right in. Instead, she pulled off the bottom layer of cake + frosting from her slice of cake and ate it. She was really meticulous and neat.

Kacey’s mom created the sweet pink drink. It was some sort of yummy raspberry + ginger ale concoction. The striped straws were ordered from The Cupcake Social. The bottles are just Starbucks frappuccino coffee drinks that we scrubbed the labels off of. I love that we’ll be able to use the bottles again for future parties + gatherings.

em's first birthday party

We hung a festive mixture of paper lanterns above the island in our kitchen. I purchased them from Fiesta Pom Pom, Paper Lantern Store and Garden Ridge.

We also created a wish table for guests to leave their wishes for Em on her first birthday – a tradition I hope to continue ever year for her birthday.

It was such a great party and I am so proud of how it all turned out. It took a lot of planning + time but by doing a little bit each day, we were able to accomplish everything we wanted without too much stress.

And finally, a hearty thank you to everyone who came to her party + celebrated with us. Em is so lucky to have you all in her life.

sneak peek // em’s party

How was your weekend? Fabulous, I hope! Ours was filled with family + friends as we celebrated Em’s first birthday. We had such a wonderful time, and we think she did, too. I can’t wait to share all of it with you – from the invites to the decor + more. Just bear with me because I probably have 1000 photos to go through, select and edit. Whew!

Happy Monday, everyone!

bunnies

I noticed some tracks when it snowed Friday. The tracks weren’t from our little pooch. The bunnies had returned!

Bunny tracks:

Doggie tracks:

Our neighborhood has little wild bunnies. I noticed them last spring when we moved in but they disappeared during the winter. Thursday night when it was snowing, I peeked outside and noticed two bunnies hopping around in the snow in our backyard.

hoppy easter

Also in other bunny news, we added this sweet card to our shop. Enjoy!

first snow

Em saw her first snow today. From inside, she watched as Kacey built her a snowman. Later, we bundled her up [probably in way too much clothes] and took her outside to see it.

Hope you are staying warm! Happy Friday :]

on display

so, those cigar boxes we found at a garage sale? well, i put a few on the secretary in the foyer. i think i like them there.

garage sale find

saturday morning, kacey, em and i went on a little adventure to see want we could find at our neighborhood garage sale. we walked away with a bag full of beautiful cigar boxes. this is just one of them. i think i’ll use them as decor. maybe place a few on the secretary in the foyer. maybe a few above our china hutch. maybe use one as jewelry box in our bedroom. who knows, but at ten cents a piece, i couldn’t pass them up and figured i find some use for them eventually.

so, how about you? how was your weekend? did you do anything fun?
