These are the things Em loved when she was one. She also liked big things like her water table but I wanted to focus on the smaller things. The things that are perfectly priced for gift giving.

Fisher-Price Magical Tea for Two - She loves playing tea party and this tea set has everything she needs.

8″ Minnie Mouse Plush - Em loves her Minnie + Mickey dolls. She’d take them on a pretend picnic, feed them a pretend lunch and serve them pretend tea.

B. One Two Squeeze Blocks - These blocks were great both in and out of the bathtub. They have different things on each side so Em used them to learn her numbers, colors and animals.

Mega Bloks Maxi - Like legos but for toddler hands.

Em is the oldest in a circle of friends. The little girl next door is a year younger. And a friend of ours has a little girl a year younger too. So, when it comes time for holiday + birthday giving, I usually gift them something that Em loved when she was their age.

I thought I’d share with you some of Em’s favorites + my go tos for gift giving. First up, her newborn favorites.

newborn gifts

Aden + Anais Swaddlers - I’ve blogged about these before. We love the big 47″ square ones. In the early days, we used them as swaddlers. Then nursing covers. Now with Em 2.5 years old, we use them as sheets.

Manhattan Toy Winkel - This was the first toy she could use on her own. Thanks to the loops, she was able to grasp it easily.

On the Night You Were Born - Hands down, my favorite book. It was given to us my Em’s aunt. It’s such a sweet, sweet story. I’ve teared up many a time reading it to Em.

Vulli Sophie the Giraffe Teether - A classic teething toy. I’ve gifted Sophie many times including this variation.

our christmas tree // 2012

Now that Em is 2.5 years old, we figured it was time for us to finally get a full size Christmas tree to replace our little faux tabletop one. After much looking around, we decided on a faux tree from Balsam Hill but there are so many types of trees to choose from! We decided to order the branch sample kit to get a better idea of what we liked. Their Norway White Spruce was the winner for us.

The tree arrived in two huge four foot boxes [boxes that Em now plays rocket ship in] and sat in our foyer until Friday night. After Em went to sleep, we put on the Christmas music and put up the tree! The left picture is the tree the first time we put it up. We put it together and realized we were suppose to “fluff” the tree in sections. The second picture is after we took it down + fluffed it correctly. The third is after it was fluffed and decorated.

The next morning, Em got up and was thrilled with the tree and all of the decorations around the house. She spent a long time spotting the different ornaments on the tree and finding all the new Christmas things in the house. And, since it was the first day of December, she was able to open the first door in her Advent Calendar.

That’s what we did this weekend. How about you? When did/will you decorate?

thanksgiving 2012

How was your Thanksgiving? Ours was very nice! We drove out to the lake house and enjoyed time with family + friends. Em really loved being out there. She played in the leaves, threw sticks in the lake, went out on the canoe, and swung in the swings. This swing [the horsey swing] was her favorite!

Custom sketch moving announcements we recently designed + printed. Congratulations on your beautiful new home P family!

PS – You may have noticed we skipped sketch no. 35. We completed that sketch for someone to make a custom stamp from and thus didn’t create printed cards. We’re always open to fun concepts! Contact us if you have an idea.

em’s second haircut

I have a confession to make. A week after Em’s first haircut, I cut her hair. Again. By myself.

em's second haircut

If you recall, for her first haircut I was worried they would cut off all of her curls. So, when they asked how much they should cut off, I said only a teeny bit please! The stylist mentioned that she would have cut more to even out her never-cut-different-lengths-baby-hair but did as I requested and only cut the very tips.

Her comment stuck with me and I realized that yes, her hair did look a little weird. The underneath side was much shorter than the top layer. And after thinking about it for several days, I finally grabbed a pair of scissors, put her in front of the television and trimmed her hair. And I’m so glad I did it. Yes her curls aren’t the same and she looks more grown up. However, I think her hair looks so much better!

In the picture above, you can see the three stages – from pre-haircut to first haircut to second haircut.
